Described as ‘one of the most innovative of contemporary writers‘ by The Courier Mail, as ‘a 21st century Baudelaire‘ by Dazed and Confused Magazine, and as a ‘literary genius‘ by Prat Magazine, Brentley Frazer’s poetry, short stories and other writings have been published internationally in many of the worlds most reputable magazines, anthologies, newspapers and other periodicals. His 2003 collection A Dark Samadhi attained critical acclaim, and his 2007 follow up collection Memories Like Angels at a Ball Tripping Over Their Gowns saw his writing compared ‘to that of William S. Burroughs and Kafka’. Brentley holds a Master of Arts in writing and freelances as an editor and reviewer for multiple publications. Currently he is working on a novel and preparing a new collection of poems. He also likes to dabble with creative nonfiction, gonzo/participatory journalism, painting and photography. He is also founder, editor and publisher of Retort Magazine (online since 2001).
Spoken Word/Performances/Public Appearances
Brentley has has appeared as a guest artist at numerous literary festivals, poetry readings and culture jams, including: The National Poetry Festival, The Sydney Poetry Festival, The Queensland Poetry Festival, The Brisbane Writers Festival, The Wellington International Poetry Festival, The National Young Writers Festival, The Oxfam Bookfest in London and most recently ‘Spoken‘ at the State Library of Queensland. He was co-founder of The Vision Area and is a founding member of the long running Brisbane spoken word event Speed Poets.
